  3.       Modification from Kenwood on the TM-721A for adding cross-band operation.
  4.  
  5.         To operate the TM-721A in the repeater cross-band mode,
  6.         chip resistor R121 on the control unit (X53-3130-XX) (B/3),
  7.         must be removed. The following modification will detail how to
  8.         access the resistor.
  9.  
  10.     1. Disconnect the power supply and antenna from the transceiver.
  11.     2. Remove the top and bottom covers (11 screws). Do not damage the
  12.        speaker wires when removing the top cover.
  13.     3. Remove the silver colored screws from the front panel chassis (2 on
  14.        each side, 1 on top, and 1 on the bottom).
  15.     4. Carefully pull the front panel away from the body of the
  16.        transceiver (do not disconnect any cables).
  17.     5. Locate chip resistor R121 on the Control unit inside the front
  18.        panel. Unsolder & remove the resistor.
  19.     6. If you wish to disable the built-in 3 minute time-out timer,
  20.        also remove resistor R122 on the Control unit inside the front
  21.        panel.
  22.     7. To place unit in repeater mode, press F key.
  23.     8. Press the A.B.C. key within 5 seconds of pressing the F key. Three
  24.        dots should be lit in the main display. Unit will now operate as
  25.        a cross-band repeater.
